Life at School

What's happening in school ...

Musical Painting

On Friday 22nd May, we looked at Composition 7 by Wassily Kandinsky and painted in his style whilst listening to Happy by Pharrell Williams.  A fantastic afternoon!

Dinosaurs and all that rubbish!
Our book for Thursday 14th and Friday 15th May has been Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish by Micheal Foreman.
We read the story and talked about how we can look after our world.  The Y1/2s re-wrote the story over two days and the Reception children painted pictures of dinosaurs and wrote sentences about them and then they made a dinosaur out of recycling!

VE Day Celebrations

School on Thursday 7th May was full of red, white and blue as the children prepared for a street party in the playground!  It could have been 1945!  The children waved flags, sang along to We’ll Meet Again as Mr Wright played his saxophone, tried spam and corn beef sandwiches and devoured jam tarts made by Reception and KS1.  The children learnt all about why we celebrate VE Day.  Fun was had by all!

The Hungry Caterpillar

On Thursday 30th April and Friday 1st May, we have been on a minibeast hunt, listened to the story of The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, written new endings to the story and found out facts about caterpillars.  We made enormous caterpillars out of playdoh and then built homes for them!

Between Monday 20th and Wednesday 22nd April, the book theme was Zog for both upstairs and downstairs.

Downstairs we have been writing diary entries and instructions teaching zog to fly.

Upstairs the children have been creating a new version of zog changing the animal/creature used.

The older children helped create a castle role play area for the younger children which has two lovely flags made by Mr Neale and Maisie. Today the younger children added more details to the castle as well as shields and swords.

On Friday 17th April we used pastels to draw fruit, drew rainbows for Dursley Police Station and had an afternoon of games.

Games and Music

On Thursday 16th April we had a Monopoly Morning and an afternoon of music.

Mr Wright's Challenge

With Mr Wright on Thursday 9th April, the children were set a challenge that had 11 clues. As they solved each clue it led to the next, and each clue had a letter with it. At the end, the children had to arrange the letters into a message to get their reward. The message said Thank You NHS.

One of the trickiest clues was:

My first is in Parrot, my second is in Underground Passage. What am I?  Do you know where this is?

On Wednesday 8th April, the children spent time with Mr Lee making art for the NHS.

Easter Art and Craft

The children have been having some Easter fun this week with Mrs Kingscote.

On 3rd April, The children (and Mr Neale) enjoyed cutting, chopping and slicing surplus fruit and vegetables to create these fabulous designs.

Fruit Salads

On Friday 3rd April we made fruit salad and made pictures in Forest School.

Paths and Mazes

On Thursday 2nd April our book was The Secret Path by Nick Butterworth.  We had great fun designing mazes.

Egg Drop

Our book 26/27th March was Egg Drop by Mini Grey.  We tried different materials to protect our eggs, tested them and then designed flying machines.
